Originally, the West Highland White Terrier was bred in Portalloch, Scotland, and since it was easy to train, was used mainly for hunting. This hardy, sturdy and intelligent little 'Westie' has become an excellent companion dog and its popularity has blossomed in Canada and America.

The Black Scottish Terrier, a separate breed entirely, was also bred as a hunter and over the years showed it was a fearless adversary against foxes and badgers.

In this painting I situated both dogs (Corrie & Rhona) at the edge of a highland pathway waiting for their 'Masters Return'.

The background is an area of Glen Sannox on the Isle of Arran, one of the scenic beauty spots of Scotland and the original home of the dogs' owner.
