Although bobcats range throughout the forests, mountains and deserts of North America they are rarely seen in the wild. They are well equipped hunters having excellent eyesight, hearing and agility enabling them to stalk or ambush their prey. This wildcat hunts rabbits, hares, mice and squirrels mainly at night and relaxes in caves or between fallen trees during the daylight hours.

In this painting something has caught the attention of the bobcat during his relaxation, but considering the intense concentration on his face and the deliberate pivot of his body toward the intruder, the disturbance must be worthy of the cat's curiosity to merit an investigation.
